Where have we sung in the past?

About Us

Doodles was founded in September 2011 in Prague. Thanks to our broad musical tastes, Doodles' repertoire includes a colourful palette of musical genres, such as Renaissance music, folk songs, classical men’s chorus music from the 19th and 20th centuries, opera, spirituals, musicals, famous melodies from the Beatles, or 80s and 90s pop. The choir sings a capella as well as with accompaniment, and some of the songs even have choreography.
Doodles is the only gay men’s choir in the Czechia.

Doodles wants to contribute to overcoming prejudices and promoting mutual respect through music. Doodles has eagerly joined the wider family of LGBT choirs in Europe. Following its joint performance with the London Gay Men’s Chorus in August 2015 at the New Scene of the National Theatre in Prague, the choir travelled to Paris in 2016 to sing at a festival with the gay and lesbian choir Podium Paris. The choir is also looking forward to 2018 for the large gathering of LGBT choirs “Various Voices” in Munich, Germany.

Marek Stanka

Choir Director, arranger
Average pianist with singing experience from his childhood and high school choir, who realised that he can earn a living working at a bank. Though no doubt, Marek’s talent and devotion to the only gay choir in the Czech Republic lets his musical colours shine through the grey clouds of the financial world.

Aleš

Tenor
He has loved music since he was a child. In addition to playing the piano, he gained his singing abilities at the Basic School for the Arts in Hranice and in the Hranice Children’s Choir. Since he was 20 years old, Aleš sang as a soloist with a band. Without the regular Wednesday rehearsals, the week would be boring for him.

Tomáš

Tenor
Tomáš’ music interests include R&B, soul, jazz, folk, pop, and classical. He is not a stranger to any genre and sings wherever he can – very often even in the cafés where he works as a barista.

Tenor
Slávek has been singing since childhood, first with his mother in the kitchen, then in a mixed choir in Znojmo. At university, he sang in the choir 440 Hz. He was invited to join Doodles by his friend Tomáš. Slávek enjoys singing in choirs and the company of good friends.

Karel

Tenor
Karel started singing at art school and continued in the chamber ensemble of Masaryk High School in Vsetín. He also likes to sing and play guitar with friends around the campfire. Karel is a railway enthusiast.

Jirka

Tenor
When Jirka attended a singing course for non-signers a few years back, he did not realise how much it would affect him. He not only had the opportunity to listen to music, but also to share in interpreting it.

Patrik

Tenor
Patrik joined the choir in 2015. Five years ago, he started singing on a more professional and stable level in another choir, where he found his place, and his motivation and passion for music was so great that he has been taking private singing lessons for the past three years. In addition, Patrik enjoys nature and travelling.

Radovan

Tenor
Radovan has been singing since he was six years old wherever possible, and he takes this pretty seriously. He is a traveller at heart, and notes for him are like a musical timetable. He enjoys classical as well as popular music. Radovan sometimes misbehaves at rehearsals, but only when he’s in the mood.

Antonín

Baritone
Although Tonda sang in a choir as a child and played the piano, he soon realised that he is more interested in chemistry and biology. He has enjoyed returning back to singing, as well as beekeeping.

Vladimír

Baritone
A new member of the choir since September 2015. Vladimír is not able to imagine a world without music. Vladimír has been following Doodles for some time. But it wasn’t until he was invited by Marek to join the choir that he changed from being an enthusiastic fan to an active member.

Slávek

Baritone
Slávek started with singing around the campfire and progressed to rambunctious karaoke parties, and ended up in Doodles in 2016. He soon realised that 10% of the choir is named Slávek. In addition to singing, he loves the Balkans, wine, and everything on rails.

Slávek

Baritone
Music is the shorthand of emotion. Emotions, which let themselves be described in words with such difficulty, are directly conveyed to man in music, and in that is its power and significance (Leo Tolstoy). And I thank Doodles for the challenge and opportunity to be a better and better stenographer of emotion.

Boris

Baritone
Boris is from Germany and has been living in Prague for quite some time. A long time ago, he sang a total of 17 years in several choirs in Lüneburg, Düsseldorf, and Paris, along with a year in the Prague choir “Hlahol”. Since September 2016, he is a proud member of Doodles.

Vratislav

Bass/Baritone
Vráťa joined the choir about a year after it was founded. He sang in an art school as a child and then as a high school student while playing the guitar at campfires. Vráťa works in the construction industry, but animals are his love, especially his dog. He cannot read notes, but has an ear for music and really enjoys singing in Doodles.

Míra

Bass
Míra has always enjoyed taking trips with friends and singing by the campfire, and so he was asked if he wanted to sing and train his voice under professional direction. After a moment of hesitation, he accepted the invitation, and today he is happy he did.

Jenda

Bass
Honza has enjoyed singing since childhood and sang in his high school choir. The choir is not only a hobby for him, but also a challenge to push himself beyond his limits and to improve himself. He likes good food, gardening, and his dog. Honza makes a living as a “magician with numbers” in the healthcare industry.

Jano

Bass
Although Jano has no education in music, singing got under his skin thanks to his musical family. A few years ago, he realised that singing in a choir is a pleasant experience, and his appetite to sing has never left him. After years without singing, he gladly accepted the offer to join Doodles, and he does not regret this decision.

Ondřej

Bass
When I came into this world, the Sudice approached me, and one of them said: “Ondřej, one of these days, you will sing in Doodles”. And life is tedious without song, said the second one.

Zdeněk has never sung in an organised choir or played a musical instrument. He is a prime example of how someone who does not know how to read music can sing in a choir.
