Doodles was founded in 2011 in Prague. A few friends were interested in the idea of singing in a gay choir. The word spread to other friends, and soon the first rehearsal took place. The choir’s broad repertoire includes classical music, folk songs, carols, and last but not least, pop music.
In the beginning, the repertoire was focused more on folk and classical music. Under the leadership of our choirmaster, even less experienced members succeeded in training their voice so that the first concert could take place during the 2012 Christmas season. We have also cooperated with other choirs, and hence have had the opportunity to sing, among other things, Jakub Jan Ryba’s traditional Czech Christmas Mass accompanied by an orchestra. We, of course, continued to work diligently on other musical endeavours.
The composer, Jan Dobiáš, arranged for us the first pop song, which was the start of a new era for Doodles. In the 2014 season, under the leadership of founding member and now also choir director, Marek Stanka, we learned many new pop compositions that we first presented to the public at our spring concert. A turning point for the choir was the choir’s joint performance with the London Gay Men’s Chorus during Prague Pride 2015.
